Terms of Service

Effective date: April 30, 2026

These terms govern your use of Murmur, the desktop application, and the murmur.app website. Read them. If you don't agree, don't use Murmur.

1. Who we are

"Murmur," "we," "us," and "our" refer to the maintainers of the Murmur open-source project. "You" refers to the person installing or using the software.

2. License

The Murmur desktop application is distributed under the MIT License. A copy of that license ships with the installer and is also available in the project repository. Subject to that license, you may use, copy, modify, and redistribute the software for any purpose, commercial or otherwise.

The MIT License is the operative legal grant for the software itself. These Terms cover the additional context — the website, the trademark "Murmur," your responsibilities when using third-party providers — and do not narrow the rights granted by MIT.

3. The software is provided "as is"

Murmur is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The full disclaimer is the one in the MIT License: in no event shall the authors or copyright holders be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability arising from the use of the software.

4. Bring-your-own-key responsibility

Murmur requires you to supply your own API key for a third-party provider (Groq, Google Gemini, etc.). You are solely responsible for:

Murmur is not a reseller, agent, or affiliate of any provider. The contractual relationship for that service is between you and the provider.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Murmur:

Recording laws differ by jurisdiction; some require all-party consent. Where you record, and the lawfulness of that recording, is your responsibility.

6. The website

The murmur.app website is provided for informational purposes. We may update or remove content at any time without notice. Links to third-party sites are provided as a convenience and do not imply endorsement.

7. Trademarks

"Murmur" and the Murmur logo are unregistered trademarks of the Murmur project. The MIT License grants rights in the source code and binaries; it does not grant trademark rights. You may not use the Murmur name or logo to imply endorsement of a derivative work without our written permission.

8. Pricing for paid plans

The "Pro" and "Team" plans displayed on the marketing site are not yet available. Listed prices are indicative and may change before launch. Joining the waitlist does not create a contract; we will present final terms at the time of purchase.

9. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the software or the website after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

10. Termination

You may stop using Murmur at any time by uninstalling the application. We may discontinue the software, the website, or any waitlist program at any time, for any reason, without notice. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — disclaimers, limits of liability, governing law — survive.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute that is not resolved informally shall be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New Castle County, Delaware, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
